There is a well-known phrase "Behind every great man there's a great woman." That can be changed to 'Behind every great man, there are many supporters.' NACA and NASA have probably produced more than their share of great aeronautical researchers. But without the many workers daily performing their jobs, the research would not have been possible. The cultural history of our center has been built on all the personnel, from the construction crews through the models makers, computers, wind tunnel technicians, and lesser known researchers. Throughout the website can be found references to some of these individuals.
This page is an attempt to capture brief biographies of these people who are no longer with us, who made NACA/NASA what it is. The computers - women hired to perform calculations prior to the advent of electronic computers - have their own page.
