HAMPTON — Sue Edmondson Wilder, 80, died peacefully in her sleep Jan. 31, 2009.

Sue was born in Halifax, Va. She was a graduate of Hampton Institute (University) and a long-term resident of Hampton. Sue was a data analyst at NASA for 35 years, until she retired in 1985. She was active in the Hampton University Boosters' Club, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Links, Inc., and many other organizations. She also held numerous key positions with the Girl Scouts of America, through the years.

As a member of St. Cyprians Episcopal Church, Sue was a member of the choir, served as a past vestry member and church treasurer, and worked on many church-related committees.

Sue is preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth and Elisha Edmondson; and her sister, Elizabeth Soares.

She is survived by her husband, Roland; her daughter, Teresa Diane Wilder; son, Dana Wilder (Aliza); two grandsons, Devin and Adam; a brother, William Edmondson (Rose); sisters, Grace Harris (James), Marian Brazziel (William), Mamye BaCote (Theodore Jr.), and Lola Sadler (Johnnie). Sue is also survived by her adopted daughter, Karen McAdoo; several cousins, nieces, nephews; and close family friends.

There will be a Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. Omega Omega service at 6 p.m. and a Links, Inc. service at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, at St. Cyprians Church, 1242 W. Queen Street, Hampton, VA. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, at St. Cyprians. There will be a viewing from 9 to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, at St. Cyprians. The viewing will be followed at 11 a.m. by the funeral service. Family and friends will assemble at the church by 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Hampton Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Cyprians Episcopal Church, 1242 W. Queen Street, Hampton, VA 23669.
